Under Construction
Oh well, it was bound to happen and it happened in the best way. I was leaving the airbnb at 5:55 am and noticed a flat front tire. Note to self: always check tires last thing before you go to bed!!!
I made a good faith effort to change the tire. I finally got the levers to work and got the flat tube out. There was an interesting “tape” on the inside of the tire that we think is extra protection against puncture. In running my fingers around the tire, I did not feel the usual “steel sliver” that would cause the flat. I was reluctant to put the new tube in and then end up with a flat out at 22K alone. I was running out of time to check the flat tube and see where the problem was and check that part of the tire. I gave up. I was surprised that I was able to fall bck to sleep with the use of the snor machine and finally woke up after 9am. I went over the Elite Cyclery at 10am as the internet said they were open but I think it is actually 11am.
Instead, I executed on the plan for today. Wrote out the name of the brewery south of Puerto Morelos that I had gone to Monday. Took the R1 bus to the colectivo gathering point. Got a real seat in the van and off we went, only to discover that maybe the reason the seat was empty was that the air conditioner dripped water on it!! It was a very small amount. My books were not getting wet. As soon as someone got off, I switched seats to a non-drip. The driver dropped me at Casa Cervecera Pescadores about 11am. The nice young lady who had taken care of me Monday was not there and no other guests arrived but I had the 4 sample paddle and one lone bottle of the Caribbean ale. The man always asks which I like best and I have to remember to answer in terms of me and not judgmental: “I liked this one” instead of “this one was very good”. Enjoyed reading, crossed the street and caught a collectivo to Puerto Morelos.
It appears that I have not written the story of my Monday Puerto Morelos visit. On Monday 3 Canadians got off the colectivo with me but had no idea how to get to Puerto so I lead them.
