AT 2022: Where did I look?

As I have said, the purpose of these pages is not to have you read a little about 2022 hikers. What I am trying to do is get you interested enough to watch a couple videos from the 2023 class on your own and maybe, just maybe, enjoy the adventure so much as I did that you will continue with them into October. It is the old, don’t give the woman a fish, give her a fishing pole!

All the material I have posted is from youtube. One goes to youtube.com. I would encourage you to set up a youtude account so you can subscribe to the posters and thereby encourage them to post more. It is not clear to me what is the best string to use in youtube to surface Appalachian Trail thru hikers for 2023 or even my group from 2022. There is a search bar at the top of the youtube page and I usually used the string “AT 2022 thur hikers”. But, casting that net did not catch all my adventurers, One change might be to spell out AT, Appalachian Trail.

Here is the youtube search page:

Note I have circled the search I typed in but I have not yet pressed enter to execute the search

Once you press enter and execute the search, you should see a screen like below but of course without the red circles.

There are 5 circles. The first is the filters, the next three are ads and the last is the link to the poster’s channel.

Try pulling down the Filters widget. You should see the below.

5 columns

The bad news is that you can only choose ONE entry in ONE column? The first column is UPDATE DATE. If you choose Last Hour then you get to see posting from the last hour, You are not allowed to combine categories like Last Hour with Movie. Play around with this until you get the hang of it. I see no reason to touch any of the 3 middle columns: Type, Duration, Features. I just left them alone and I got what I wanted. The last one, Sort By : Relevance, Upload date, View count, Rating; I did find interesting once we got a little further in. I never used relevance. Upload date is mean in that it, as far as I can see, it does not allow you to sort from oldest you newest, only newest to oldest. View count is great in that it lets you see what videos got the most views. I have no idea if rating is worth your time.

I would recommend that you never click on anything that is marked as a AD

The last item I circles is the name that the poster used for their channel. Clicking on it takes you to their page. Here is the page for Hikingdancer,

Note the links under her circle brand HikingDancer. Home Videos Playlist Community Store Channels About

Home is what you are seeing now, usually the most recently posted videos.

Videos: is all the videos. There is no filter on that page but at least you can choose recently uploaded or popular.

Playlist: allows the publisher to break the videos into collections, Maybe organizing around different hikes.

Community: pretty random, just a chance to post something and comment on comments.

Store: allows you to sell Swag

Channels: sorrry, no idea, let me know if you see it used!

About: More bio about the publisher. I have seen email addresses, instagram accounts listed but usually less as the publisher gets more traffic.
