Under Construction: My 4th city is called Shaoxing.
My idea for the first time is to break my thoughts on this city into a number of pages.
On this page I will have short links to the following topics
hostel
Lu town
ancient street
eating and other streets
bridge
woman revolutionary house
museums
On this page I will handle links from skywell hiking, biker, taxie in and out
Every location in China is of course so different but this feels more different in that it is not a city and I am less cocooned in a B&B.
On the one hand it is simple. I am here for 3 nights, which really means 2 full days. Instead of staying in a fancy hotel or small B&B, I am in a Hostel. I don’t interact with the few other guests. I don’t see them at breakfast or in the halls. There is the woman who runs the restaurant and can answer questions. There is a young man who is sometimes on the front desk and has some English. There is another older woman on the front desk who really has very limited English.

In the first 3 cities I have visited in China I certainly moved around a lot, road my bike out of town, but never really traveled away. Wendy, from Huizhou Ancient City, when she heard my next stop was Shaoxing, suggested I visit another ancient town called Lu Town. Click Here to read about that adventure.
I am literally 100 yards at most from the entrance to a “ancient street”. The street is pedestrian only and 1/2? mile long. There are a number of shops catering to tourists and maybe 5 house museums. I try to go to all the museums but looking back at my pictures now I can not tell you which is which etc.
One long morning I took a trip to Lu Town. I’ll handle it seperately. One afternoon I explored a couple bridges. After a few hours, I was able to use the busses. I took one a long way, 40 minutes? to Lu Town. Others I just used to cut my travel time around town, jumping on and off.
If you remove Lu Town and the Bridges, one can think of the area I covered in Shaoxing as consisting of three parts. There is the “Ancient Street”. There is another long pedestirna street, It goes for 1 mile? and has shop after shop on both sides.
