Korea 2024: Jeju Island

Sunday October 20 we moved in Korea for the first time. After 3 nights in our Seoul Hostel, we ventured out in the world with all our belonging, took the subway to the local airport, flew to Jeju island, rented a car and drove to our hotel for a 2 nights stay in Jeju City. Tom was somewhat in his element. He kind of enjoys the challenge of low cost transfers and it turns out that Jeju City is a Honky Tonk beach town, not unlike Old Orchard or Oak Bluffs of Tom’s earlier life.

Subway to local airport. We are getting pretty good at Seoul subway but it still takes 2 of us, one eyes, one slowness.
We had lunch at the airport. I wanted beer so Kim sent me to take a picture of the menu of my beer selected place.
This is my lunch.
Kim selected takeout from another operation and brought it to my table.
A close up!

For the second time, first in Toronto on Air Canada transfer from Boston to Seoul and then today Seoul local to Jeju, Kim was prevented from entering TSA because her boarding pass name and passport did not match. This time, I got the same treatment where as I survived the Air Canada Natze attack. We both made our way back to the ticketing counter where the attendant asked us our birthdays and changed the names on our boarding passes to match our passports! Back to TSA. The normal computer out, belts off, shoes off, Yes or No Hassel. This time it was computer out but belt and shoes on though I had already untied and had to stop to retie! We made it to the gate. I found the below in the Men’s room.

I texted it to the family as grandson Thomas loved peeing outside in Maine and I thought this might be the same.

The flight was VERY windy but the pilot STUCK the landing. I told Kim we were coming in Hot and we did! Kim found the car rental booth at the airport, successfully filled out the forms, They questioned why she had rented 2 cars but were willing to take it down to just one. Kim found the bus to the parking lot. The ride was long but we finally got to the booth and were assigned a car. We kept asking for a paper map and help with directions to the hotel but neither was available. A young man helped Kim start the car. He wanted to connect her phone to the GPS but we avoided that. He set the GPS up in english and pointed it to the hotel. We were NOT at all sure. But, Kim started out. Tom mainly encouraged us to avoid looking at the GPS and instead just listen to her english directions. We had to go around the block at the Hotel at least once but then arrived at the door. Kim went in, negotiated the room and she drove the car into the underground garage. There was a little interaction with the floor attendant, something about parking the car in the lines pained on the floor. In Kim’s defense, she pulled the car right up against the retainer in front and he still wished it would go in further!

Kim was definitely happier with the size of the room!
The bathroom had an actual shower stall instead of just being a shower stall.
The view outside. It was very windy so Kim just recovered while Tom explored the neighborhood for a dinner place.
It may not look like much. Kim wanted rotisserie chicken but had to settle for skewers. The salad was VERY good.
Tom as happy with a new beer. We got a sea food soup compliments of the chief. She even brought it over!

Tom found GO and Youtube on the TV but could of course not make either speak english. Thus ended day 4!
