I am going to take advantage of one of the rare opportunities for a live coverage. It is 7:57 on Monday Jan 15 MLK day. Yesterday it rained at night and there was a little slickness at 8am so I took the day off. I just woke up today a few minutes ago. The remaining berries from the first batch of strawberries I bought the day I arrived have gone bad so I have chosen 4 from the latest batch. They seem fine. In fact quite good! I just cut off the tops, no washing, put them in the “cookie” bowl (the wide bowl I use at night to catch cooking dropping from my mouth so that the crumbs do not end up on the floor or on the bed that I am seated on.) and am wolfing them down asap. I really need to get out as close to 8AM as possible. I’ll do the long straight road today. I can’t imagine that Mexico dose MLK but it does sound quiet outside?
I am back from the ride. Good ride out the straight road. As always the challenge is getting across the major fast roads to the ride route and then back across them to home. I took some selfie of the bike with the lights on. Left about 8:30. Got to the turn around at 9:11 and mow back typing at 10:12. It is a major challenge to get all the equipment ready, out and back! Today I had to come back into the apartment after locking it to get the wrist watch that turns the gopro on and off. I forgot the sun screen entirely. Since I often ride at 6AM it is not necessary but I really should be using it on these 8AM days. I don’t usually use it on my lunch trip 11am to 3pm but there I am walking in shade, on the bus, under the canapé of the Surfin etc.
Did a little thinking about edcation. That has been the intellectual theme of the trip. I have been writing on and off to a college classmate and his grown son. I’ll put in a chapter about it here. Riding and running are great for thinking as long as I do not need my conscious mind to work hard on supplementing what my subconscious can dope out about the images that my poor eyes are providing to it about pot holes, stopped cars, traffic etc.
I have the air conditioner and the fan on. Slowly cooling down. I think I will take a shower at like 10:30. I will not do any laundry. I think I will have to do maybe one more laundry set before the flight Thursday afternoon but we will see. The big event of yesterday afternoon was making the reservations for visiting daughter and family in Claremont California March 13-25. I had to get those made so I could go on, have not yet, to making reservations for Portugal March 30-April 15 to be back for daughters April 20 wedding in Boston. I feel I have typed all this before elsewhere in Cancun 2024! Finally got this daughter to email me dates for our trip to Brazil to met the inlaws, Jan 26 – Feb 5.
Showered, back pack ready, cloths laid out and I still have 15 minutes. More information than you want to know but I am always nude in the apartment. The air conditioning and fan keep it nice but why sweat any in cloths? No one comes to the door and if they do I have the swim suit ready for donning. In fact I wear the swim suit to lunch now. The shorts and Hawaiian shirt are for dinner but a T-shirt and swim trunks harvest the sweat of the noon outing.
Who will be caught in the Tom Surfin trap today or will I just read. I have never had a completely alonge meal. I have to remember to take selfies and to hand out business cards. Of course no one ever sends me email after receiving the cards!!
Money, having the correct break up of Mexican money is a constant challenge. Today I am 50 cents!! short on the bus ride home. I was able to present this problem to the woman next to me on the bar stool at Surfin and give her 9 Paco for 10 peso and ride home! Smaller bills are in such demand even at the Surfin register that I give them 200 in extra tip one day and then none the next.
Not sure how this page will end up. I will come back to see what makes sense to add and what is better left in the main cancun 2024 structure.
