Lagos 2024: Week 1 Rides

So I am here to get exercise riding a bike, right? It does happen that each ride includes a turn around point where I have lunch. There are more pictures than any other event because I usually remember to take a picture of that lunch! In years past I always enjoyed a bottle of wine. So far, with an occasional glass, a bottle of water and a few non-alcoholic beers, I have been a happy rider.

As usually, and detailed elsewhere, I picked up the bike Tuesday morning close to 9am. I organized the paraphernalia and started out for Barao de Sao Joao. (Imagine that all the A’s in that name have little squiggles on top. I should be able to figure out how to make that appear.) The ride out was uneventful. Google maps says it is 12K. I might have guessed less. I go through a wonderful agricultural back road that winds through the fields for a K before starting up the hills to the town. In years past, I have struggles with the exact route but I now have it down. Maine road East out of Lagos, first main exit past the paint ball location, a left across the fields and then a left onto my secret farm road. The farm road ends at a pullout, I head left and take the first right. It is straight on from there. When you corss the speedway, A2? you have to be sure and not get on it but that is really the only deviation. The road is uphill but gradual. I know I am coming to Sao Joao, not just from seeing it in the distance but from passing a fair grounds/athletic field that used to have lots of campers in years past. As I enter town, I take the road right up to the main square with the church.

The town is set up for a Easter? fair.
