Clam Bake with Tree

I have to say at this point that it is most likely this is not a Squirrel Island scene. The trees, the people, the backdrop, just are not correct.

But, what really connects it to Squirrel, besides that it comes from an album with other Squirrel pictures is this post card.

Clearly they are from the same place. But also, clearly a different day/shot. I think Earle Shettleworth at the Maine Historical Society(?) will be able to tell us more about this picture. If I am not mistaken, he has already identified it as one of a "Generic" clam bake where they put the name of the place: Squirrel, Peak's Island, anything; on the post card but keep the same picture. They also call it a Clam Bake. On Squirrel, we now have lobster bakes. but maybe that is more recent.

Above is an image from the great Maine Memory Network

You have to take a look at the 20 Squirrel pictures. Just search on the word Squirrel. They are mainly from the Stanley Museum of Stanley Steamer car fame. The Stanley family had a house on Squirrel.

If you want to see this particular image, you can search on Item Number 9347 Here is the actual info about the above McKown Point Clam Bake Photo on the Maine Memory Site:
